Google Updates Robots.txt Policy: Unsupported Fields Are Ignored
Search Engine Journal / Matt G. Southern
Google keeps its robots.txt support pretty simple, only allowing four fields. This makes it easier for webmasters to manage how search engine bots interact with their sites. By clarifying its stance on unsupported directives, Google helps users know what's allowed in their robots.txt files, leading to more consistent behaviour online.

Google: 5 Ways DOJ Proposals Harm Business and Consumers
Search Engine Journal / Roger Montti
Google has resisted the U.S. Department of Justice's (DOJ) antitrust proposals, arguing that the remedies could harm user security, raise consumer costs, and stifle AI innovation. Google claims the proposals would create privacy and security risks by requiring the sharing of sensitive user data, stifle AI innovation by holding back investments, and negatively impact multiple industries that rely on Google's open-source technologies like Android and Chrome.

Google Search expands Store ratings to more countries
Search Engine Land / Barry Schwartz
Google Search is expanding store ratings to more countries, including India, Australia, Canada, and the UK. These store ratings help searchers find businesses that offer high-quality customer experiences, building trust and enabling more informed purchasing decisions. Store ratings can also help merchants improve the performance of their ads and free listings, driving more qualified customers to their landing pages.

Google Tests Quick View Button For Recipes That Keep You On Google
Search Engine Roundtable / Barry Schwartz
Google's new "quick view" feature in search results lets users see recipe content directly on Google's page without visiting the original site. Schwartz claims this disrupts the user experience by providing complete content on Google's platform, diminishing the need to access the publisher's website.

As we approach the integration of SearchGPT with ChatGPT before the end of the year, I've been reflecting on how this shift will likely influence user search habits. From my years in the industry, I anticipate that users will seek information more quickly and directly, leading to a decline in traditional page navigation. The rise of natural language queries could significantly reshape search engine ranking algorithms, and I believe this is a critical moment for SEO.

SEO experts and content creators must reassess their strategies. We may be on the brink of a new focus area: "generative engine optimization" (GEO). In my experience, we must prioritize high-quality, authoritative content that effectively guides users. Adapting to these changes isn't just necessary; it's an opportunity to innovate and lead in this evolving landscape. Let's embrace this challenge together!

I’m excited to share insights on prioritizing Core Web Vitals improvements. We can impact our websites by identifying URLs with the most significant potential for boosting rankings and revenue. Analyzing these URLs using accurate user monitoring (RUM) data from Google's CrUX (Chrome User Experience Report) is crucial. Improving Core Web Vitals metrics enhances user experience and leverages high-search-volume keywords to climb those rankings. Check out this article for more details!

3. Tips and Tricks

  • Quick Tip:

The new AI Overview tracking in Ahrefs is a total game-changer for SEO analysis! The' Organic keywords' report is one of my favourite AIO filtering methods. It shows you the exact rankings within the AIO and lets you see how things have changed over time. Pretty cool, right? To access this report:

    1. Input your domain

    2. Select 'where target ranks' for AIOs

    3. Pick a high-volume query & then 'SERP'

    4. Choose your comparison date

    5. See how rankings have changed

  • Did You Know?

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) introduces an exciting new feature: the Real-Time Page Report. This update is crucial for GA4 users, as it allows for real-time analysis of visitor behaviour on your site. You can access critical metrics such as total page views and active users through summary cards and gain deeper insights with detailed tables that show active users by page path and screen class. This enhanced capability will empower you to make informed decisions to optimize your website's performance and improve user engagement.

Search 'n Stuff Antalya: Future SEO Trends and a Look Ahead to 2025

At Search 'n Stuff Antalya, we discussed SEO and artificial intelligence trends for 2025. We shared our insights during the panel by discussing future KPIs and strategies.

The Search 'n Stuff Antalya event, organized by dear Yağmur Şimşek and held in Antalya, brought together hundreds of professionals from the digital marketing and SEO world. Participants from all over Turkey and beyond had the opportunity to listen to innovations and strategies shaping the future of SEO. I also had the pleasure of speaking at a panel titled “AI in 2025 — What to Look for SEO KPIs?” moderated by Judith Lewis, where I enjoyed a great conversation with Rishi Lakhani, Gerry White, and Ozan Ketenci.

In this panel, I shared my predictions about SEO and artificial intelligence for 2025. I believe we will see significant changes in SEO in the coming years. For instance, I think the influence of traditional metrics like backlinks and domain authority will gradually diminish while brand mentions and customer reviews will become more effective. Users' conversations and comments about brands will gain value in the eyes of search engines.

I also emphasized that traditional metrics like rankings and organic traffic will lose their importance as SEO success criteria. Instead, user interactions with the site and our user experience will take centre stage. As we generate less organic traffic from search engine results, the conversion and sales this traffic brings will become much more valuable.

Finally, as Google's AI-powered personalized search results become more widespread, I predict that brands will place greater importance on their brand visibility efforts. It's no longer just about ranking higher; capturing users' attention and becoming visible in their eyes will be decisive for SEO strategies.
