The SEOs Diners Club - Issue #91 -Weekly SEO Tips & News

Here are the weekly SEO insights for the SEOs Diners Club members.

Welcome to another insightful week with The SEOs Diners Club newsletter. Leveraging over a decade of SEO expertise, I aim to distill the week's most critical developments into a concise read that won't take more than ten minutes of your time. Let's dive into the insights that matter.

1️⃣ New Perspective from Google: How Should We Update Our SEO Strategies?

Google Search Relations executive Danny Sullivan shares essential insights on SEO approaches. Interpretation of Google documents and effective SEO strategies.

This week, I'll cover essential changes in Google's approach, including Danny Sullivan's post on Mastodon. Sullivan's post on Mastodon gives the SEO community a new perspective on interpreting Google's documents and guidance.

Sullivan's post and presentation call the SEO community to think more critically about Google's algorithms and documentation.

In particular, he points out that the general goals stated in Google's documentation do not necessarily mean the algorithm is looking for specific elements on your site. Sullivan notes that Google's recommendations on content trustworthiness do not mean that the algorithm is looking for these attributes but that these attributes can be used when evaluating content.

In light of this information, how can we improve our SEO strategies? Here are a few suggestions:

  • Understand Overall Goals:

Consider the suggestions in Google's documentation as general goals and best practices, not as features the algorithm is looking for directly.

  • Think Critically:

Use your critical thinking skills when interpreting Google's guidance. Instead of taking every suggestion to the letter, consider how these suggestions can fit into your overall SEO strategies.

  • Produce Credible Content:

Content credibility is one of the general goals Google recommends. Increase the credibility of your content by providing information about the author and detailed background information.

  • Focus on User Experience:

Use Google's documentation to understand users' needs and expectations and improve your site's user experience.

  • Monitor Google's Updates:

Stay on top of updates to algorithms and guidance by closely following Sullivan's posts and Google's official announcements.

We should remember that Danny Sullivan's posts and Google's new perspectives on SEO guidance can lead us to make significant changes in our SEO strategies. In light of this information, adaptation and continuous learning remain keys to success in the digital world.

2️⃣ Google Plans Big Changes in Search Rankings!

Google Search Relations executive Danny Sullivan said that there will be significant changes in Google's search ranking algorithms.

Danny Sullivan stated that there will be significant changes in Google search rankings.

It's a case of what's in the eye of the beholder; for weeks, endless Google algorithm updates have signaled that something new was on the horizon.

The revelation came as Sullivan spoke at the Brighton SEO event in San Diego, where he said that "big changes" are coming and SEOs "need to prepare themselves"”

Sullivan said these changes align with the desire to improve search results and that those producing good, human-centered content will be fine. It is also noted that in the last few weeks, Google has made several algorithm updates that are important for SEO.

In this context, it is vital for SEO professionals to quickly adapt to such changes in Google's search algorithms and constantly review their content strategies.

In particular, it seems that approaches that prioritize user experience and content quality can be positively affected by such updates.

3️⃣ Google Search Console Adds Robots.txt Report

Google has added a new robots.txt report in Google Search Console.

This new report includes the robots.txt files that Google found for your site's top 20 hosts, the dates Google last crawled these files, and any warnings or errors encountered.

Robots.txt Report in Search Console

Google has also added the ability to request a re-crawl of a robots.txt file to this report for emergencies. Also, with this new robots.txt report, Google has retired the previously available robots.txt testing tool.

The new report can provide insight into whether indexing and crawling issues relate to your robots.txt file. Reviewing this report for sites you manage in Google Search Console is vital to ensure that Google doesn't have problems accessing your site due to robots.txt directives.

4️⃣ 10 Steps to Effectively Solve JavaScript SEO Issues

JavaScript SEO audit considerations. Optimize your website with performance and indexing tips.

Inspired by the Moz Blog article "A Non-Technical Guide to Diagnosing JavaScript SEO Issues", I share practical and effective methods for diagnosing and resolving JavaScript SEO issues.

The tools and methods to be used in this process will make the work of SEO professionals easier.

1. The Intersection of JavaScript and SEO:

While JavaScript enables websites to be dynamic and interactive, it can affect SEO performance. Understanding this interaction is the first step to a successful SEO strategy.

2. Google's JavaScript Rendering Process:

Learn how Google processes pages that contain JavaScript. This is critical for your page to be indexed correctly.

3. Site Crawl with Screaming Frog:

Screaming Frog SEO Spider is ideal for analyzing how search engines crawl your site. With this tool, you can detect possible internal linking issues related to JavaScript.

4. Raw HTML vs Rendered HTML:

Identify missing SEO-critical elements by comparing the raw HTML of a page and the rendered version with JavaScript.

5. Use Google Search Console:

Google Search Console is an excellent tool for understanding how Google sees your site. Using this tool, you can verify issues with JavaScript.

6. View Rendered Source Extension:

The View Rendered Source extension for Chrome allows you to compare the raw and rendered HTML of the page quickly.

7. Live Testing:

Test whether your site's JavaScript-generated content is indexed correctly using Google Search Console and the "site:" search operator.

8. Offer Solutions:

Offer solutions for JavaScript SEO issues, such as ensuring critical content is available in raw HTML, SSR (Server Side Rendering), or dynamic rendering.

9. Collaborate with Developer Teams:

Communicate effectively with developer teams and communicate technical requirements. Support your proposed solutions with concrete examples and documentation.

10. Continuous Monitoring and Updating:

As SEO and technology constantly change, review your JavaScript SEO practices and update them if necessary.

This 10-step guide will be an essential reference to understand the impact of JavaScript on SEO and effectively solve the problems that arise in this regard. In this way, you can strengthen your JavaScript-based website SEO strategy and make your website perform better in search engines.

5️⃣ Google: Don't Worry About "Topical Authority"

Google made a statement about the concept of "Topical Authority" which has been exaggeratedly emphasized recently and turned into a sales tool by SEO tools and experts.

Topical Authority, or Topic Authority, is frequently encountered in SEO. However, this term is not a new concept in SEO.

It is a modern interpretation of the concepts of "relevance" and "authority" that have been known for many years. Google's approach is simple:

The quality of the content and its relevance to user queries matter. In other words, for a site to be considered authoritative on a particular topic depends on the quality of its content and how well it responds to users' needs.

In this context, when developing SEO strategies, it makes more sense to prioritize producing quality and relevant content that meets the real needs of users rather than overly focusing on subject authority.

Old tactics with new names have been around for a long time in SEO. The important thing is to go beyond tags and terms and focus on precious and effective SEO practices.

If we think about this, we can make a healthier decision;

In a world where many brands in the same industry apply the recommended and clichéd methods for Topical Authority, how can Google decide which brand's site should stand out?

The day you don't fall into the trap of believing in things that are presented as "The Formula of Happiness in SEO" from channels such as Twitter or LinkedIn, which have become ordinary because many SEO experts have applied them, will be the day you start to achieve real SEO success.

6️⃣ BirGun.net SEO Case Study: Clicks Increased 318% in 3 Months

BirGun Newspaper, which stands out as a remarkable success story in the SEO world, has completely revamped its SEO strategies with the help of BoostRoas.
