Things You Should Know About Google's Search Generative Experience

Google's new Search Generative Experience (SGE) will revolutionize the SEO industry.

The advent of Artificial Intelligence has the SEO world excited about all its implications on technology and what it means for the overall human race. From increasing efficiency tenfold to helping create new ideas and new directions, the effects of AI are numerous and fascinating.

As positive as AI is for the world, as researchers and numerous academics continue to warn us, there is a much darker side to the emergence of this new paradigm. So much so that it could potentially lead to the extinction of the human species, but despite its dark side, there are also many bright sides.

No field was more unprepared for this evolving paradigm than search. With Google and Microsoft entering the fray, we have seen transformative changes in the world of search, especially when it comes to Google's SGE (Search Generative Experience). This new user interface is powered by artificial intelligence, which creates a whole new way to experience search.

To learn more about how Search Generative Experience will affect Google and all its implications on the SEO world, you can read the following article written by Tomasz Rudzki.

To summarise the article;

  • SGE brings significant changes to how search works and how it looks. AI-generated answers are shown at the top of the search results.

  • Access is limited to beta testers who have joined the waiting list. If rolled out worldwide, we think this will have a significant impact

  • SEO experts must find strategies to rank high in search results and use artificial intelligence to keep up with competitors. There will be no substitute for this practice.

  • Website owners will have to adapt quickly to the SGE, which could significantly impact how people search the web. It will be helpful for website owners to know how this will affect how their site is viewed and how to capitalize on these changes.

  • For anyone who works with Google Search for a living, the SGE could drastically change how they monetize. The old ways may no longer work, meaning everyone in search, not just SEO professionals, must be on their toes.

We have a very challenging process ahead of us. Artificial Intelligence chat-based search engines have become widespread very quickly. Most ordinary users are continuing their old search habits. However, with the introduction of SGE as a standard feature of Google search, they can quickly adapt to this new search. This will mean less and less traffic to their sites.

Our next job seems to be to understand this new search experience and try to grab a position here. As an SEO expert, you should know that this development is inevitable this year. This is not a prediction of SEO experts, such as "this year will be the year of voice search!", which later turned out to be wrong, but the reality itself.

How Do You Explain SEO Value to Executives?

In this week's Whiteboard, Friday episode of Moz, Seer Interactive's Larry Waddell discussed how to translate your SEO work for your clients into how executives think about value - especially business value.

According to Waddell, the value of SEO efforts is usually determined in four key areas: profit growth, cost reduction, cost avoidance, and insurance.

Profit growth is usually the main area we focus on when measuring the results of SEO efforts. But cost reduction is also essential. When we save a customer money, we can significantly increase the value of businesses. Also, making suggestions to customers that will prevent them from spending money in the future ensures cost avoidance. For example, suggesting clients build a fully dynamic site rather than maintaining two separate websites can help them avoid unnecessary development costs.

Finally, "insurance" refers to the idea that SEO support is a risk prevention measure. For example, in cases where a company site needs to be redesigned and renewed, the internal SEO team may not have such experience. they can hire an SEO agency to provide additional support. This can be considered as a small insurance premium to be paid to prevent a possible significant loss.

Google's Perspectives Search Menu Filter Rolls Out for Mobile Devices in the US

Google's Perspectives feature is a search menu filter launched primarily for mobile search results in the US.

The "Perspectives" menu aims to surface various content, such as long- and short-form videos, images, forum posts, and social media posts. This menu provides links to content and additional details about content creators, such as the popularity of their content. In this article, you can see SEO expert Brodie Clark's notes on this new feature.

It fills an exciting gap in content that has become apparent in recent years with the rise of short-form video platforms such as TikTok, for example and is designed to bring more diverse voices to Google's search results.

The Perspectives filter is currently only available for users in the US and on mobile devices. If this trial is successful, the feature is expected to expand to other regions. However, according to the information in the announcement, it is unclear whether Perspectives will come to the desktop version.

You can access the Perspectives feed by scrolling through menu items until the "Perspectives" option appears. Menu items are ranked by popularity, so if "Perspectives currently appears relatively low in your ranking, this may change. The Perspectives filter on mobile devices is more similar to the query optimization options in that it filters the content collection but acts as a separate feed.

Perspectives originally started as a mobile test designed to show multiple results within featured snippets. Google has now rolled out two different features called Perspectives; a carousel that appears under Top Stories and a filter accessible from the search bar menu on mobile.

The content revealed by the "Perspectives" filter comes from various website sources, including TikTok, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Quora, Reddit, Answers.com, and various other niche forums.

Our next job will be to look for ways to use social media more effectively to participate in this Google section.

Bing Artificial Intelligence Voice Chat Coming to Desktop

Microsoft announced "Bing Voice Chat on Desktop", offering AI voice chat and search on the desktop.

Microsoft has started to offer AI voice chat and search by bringing Bing AI Voice Chat to the desktop.

By adding Voice Chat to the Desktop, Bing enables us to fulfill our needs by chatting with an artificial intelligence chatbot. Bing Chat already supports five languages, and more languages are expected to be added soon. Supported Bing Voice Chat Desktop Languages:

  • English

  • French

  • German

  • Japanese

  • Mandarin (Chinese)

The Microsoft Bing blog said: "We know many users love voice input for a chat on mobile. Now it's also available on desktop by clicking the microphone icon in the Bing Chatbox. Bing Chat also supports text-to-speech - answering your questions in your voice."

Bringing the voice command and interaction experience common on mobile to the desktop is an exciting development, providing a more seamless experience between mobile and desktop on the web. Microsoft was the first major search engine to integrate AI chat capability into its search experience. Now it continues to lead the industry by bringing the voice experience to the desktop.

It seems worth using it to search for something with voice commands and find answers to the questions in my mind while driving in Istanbul traffic :)

Google Multiple Navigation Menus Have No Impact on Your SEO Performance

Gary Illyes from Google stated in his "SEO Office Hours video that having multiple navigation menus will not affect your SEO performance.

Illyes stated that having two or more navigation menus is not essential for SEO performance. Google can probably understand that you have navigation at your page's top, left, and bottom. Google will probably be able to understand your page's navigation, which will not affect your SEO performance positively or negatively.

I would still say prepare your menus as meticulously as possible. Sometimes we encounter such menus that even users do not want to navigate the site, let alone Google :)

Google Checks XML Sitemaps for Changes Before Reprocessing

Google spokesperson Gary Illyes confirmed that Google checks an XML sitemap for a change and reprocesses the XML sitemap file.

Google explained that it does this because it does not want to waste resources parsing and processing a file that has not changed since it was last processed. If you change something in your sitemap, be it a URL element or the last update date (last mod), the sitemap is parsed again and usually reprocessed.

However, it does not mean that URLs will necessarily be crawled because they are subject to quality assessments like any other URL. Also, if you have removed a URL from the sitemap and that URL no longer exists, this does not mean that the URL will automatically be removed from the index or prioritized for crawling so that it can be removed more quickly. Removing a URL from your XML sitemap does not mean that the URL will be 100% removed from the Google index.

Google Debunks the "Index Bloat" Theory

Google's John Mueller debunks the "Index Bloat" theory, stating that there is no limit to the number of pages indexed per site.

In the 'Search Off The Record' podcast, the Google Search Relations team addressed questions about web page indexing. John Mueller refuted the "Index Bloat" theory that excessive indexing of redundant pages can negatively impact search engine rankings.

The term "Index Bloat" describes a situation where search engines index pages that are not ideal. This includes filtered product pages, internal search results, printer-friendly page versions, and more.

Proponents of the "Index Bloat" theory suggest that such pages make it difficult for search engines to understand websites and negatively impact search rankings. This theory is related to crawl budget, a concept related to the number of URLs a search bot will crawl on each visit. The theory suggests that "Index Bloat" can lead to inefficient use of this crawl budget.

Mueller notes that Google does not impose any artificial limit on the number of pages a site indexes. Rather than removing pages from Google's index, he believes you should spend your time publishing helpful content.

Proponents of the "Index Bloat" theory often cite reasons such as accidental page duplication, faulty robots.txt files, and underperforming or thin content. However, Google suggests that these are not causes of a non-existent "Index Bloat" but general SEO practices that webmasters and SEO professionals should know.

Google's official stance is clear: the idea of "Index Bloat" has been debunked. Instead, the focus should be on ensuring that the pages you provide for indexing are valuable and relevant.
