🔥 The SEOs Diners Club - Issue #133 - Weekly SEO Tips & News
Here are the weekly SEO insights for the SEOs Diners Club members.
Welcome to another insightful week with The SEOs Diners Club newsletter. Leveraging over a decade of SEO expertise, I aim to distil the week's most critical developments into a concise read that will take less than seven minutes. Let's dive into the insights that matter.
Track AI Overviews with Semrush
Analyze AI overviews and strengthen your SEO strategy with Semrush's new AI Overviews feature.
While the SEO world constantly changes, I am very excited about Semrush's new AI Overviews Tracking feature.
This new feature has the potential to revolutionize SEO strategies. We can now analyze artificial intelligence summaries in the Organic Research tab, which we can only see in Position Tracking.
As Stradiji, we started to examine how Comstice.com, which we consulted as Stradiji, was included in the AI Overviews results in America, and we came across fascinating findings. Seeing how AI summaries are integrated into queries and learning whether we are included in these summaries significantly impacted our SEO strategies.
This new feature makes it easy to track AI summaries in organic research. For example, you can examine this data using the Organic Research> Positions>SERP Features on the SERP>AI Overviews filter.
This filtering method also allows you to see which queries your competitors in your industry are included in and develop your strategy accordingly. We saw that Comstice.com was included in AI Overviews for nine queries in the US market. Sharing this with our client and their positive reaction made us realize this new feature is handy.
We are not only limited to seeing which search queries Comstice.com appears in AI Overviews; we can also see a screenshot of how it appears in AI Overviews results.
Obtaining such data was previously impossible; you could only track the queries you specified. But now, we have gone beyond these limitations. Brand new doors have been opened for competitor analysis and optimization opportunities.
For example, if you are on the first page of a query but do not appear in AI Overviews, you can easily detect this through Semrush. You can also easily query your competitors' size in AI Overviews and compare them with your site's performance.
Google August 2024 Core Update Completed
Google's August 2024 core update is completed. The focus was on small sites, and content quality became critical for rankings.
Google's August 2024 Core Update was completed on September 3, and many sites experienced significant ranking changes.
The update targeted independent and small publishers, focusing on content quality and delivering helpful content to users. However, many sites did not see a significant rebound; some even saw further declines. Google's main goal with these updates is to provide users with the most helpful content and reward sites that meet real user needs rather than SEO manipulations.
As an SEO professional, you can instantly recognize how your sites are affected by such core updates. If you have experienced a drop in rankings, it is important not to panic immediately. A loss of rankings doesn't necessarily mean something seriously wrong with your site. While Google doesn't provide a roadmap for recovery in such cases, it emphasizes that continuing to “produce user-centred content” is the best strategy. At this point, producing valuable and trustworthy content is more important than ever.
While there can be rebounds between updates, the significant change usually happens with the next update. If your site hasn't seen the expected improvements, perhaps the content on your site isn't valuable enough for users. Google changes its ranking systems frequently, so you must constantly review and improve your content quality and user experience.
Being negatively affected by an update doesn't necessarily mean your site has serious problems. What you need to do is continuously improve your content and technical SEO. Creating valuable, trustworthy, and original content for users will be the best approach for your site's long-term success.
Google Analytics Now Visualizes 5 Metrics at the Same Time
Google Analytics takes your data analysis to the next level with innovative features like visualizing five metrics and anomaly detection.
In a revolutionary update to data analytics, Google Analytics now allows you to visualize five different metrics simultaneously. This innovation will be a great advantage, especially for marketers and SEO experts who want to analyze trends by comparing metrics.
The “Plot Rows” feature makes comparing data in one report easy and time-saving. The anomaly detection tool automatically flags data fluctuations, helping you spot unusual traffic spikes or dips immediately. For e-commerce businesses, the new 'Transaction Report' provides more detailed insights into revenue streams.
Google Analytics - New Features
These innovations allow you to analyze your data more efficiently and make business decisions faster. You can use these features immediately to strengthen your SEO strategies and improve your organic performance. However, getting used to the new tools and reporting may involve a learning curve.
SearchGPT vs. Google: Initial Analytics and User Feedback
Is SearchGPT a competitor to Google? Users and experts analyzed SearchGPT's strengths and weaknesses. How does it compare to Google?
SE Ranking's comprehensive analysis compares SearchGPT's performance with Google and Bing and reveals some interesting findings.
According to the study, SearchGPT's results are 73% similar to Bing's but only 46% identical to Google's. This suggests that SearchGPT operates with a different algorithm than Google and offers opportunities, especially for sites that don't rank on Google. 26% of the sites ranked on SearchGPT do not receive any traffic from Google. This is an important finding that should be evaluated primarily in terms of SEO.
SearchGPT - Sample Search Result
Another noteworthy point in the research is SearchGPT's ability to summarize information. Unlike Google, this system compiles data from multiple sources and presents it to the user, promising an ad-free user experience. However, despite its strengths, it does not offer as much depth and diversity as Google in navigational, transactional or local searches. This is due to Google's massive database and superior access to local information.
SE Ranking also notes that SearchGPT is particularly prominent in media-related searches. 75% of searches for media content are filled with results from media sources. This can present strategic opportunities for SEO professionals on media-oriented sites. It is also noteworthy that SearchGPT is experiencing some delays, especially regarding current news; in this area, the timeliness of results lags behind Google.
This research shows that SearchGPT can be considered an alternative, especially for sites with difficulty in organic traffic. However, the most crucial point that SEO professionals should consider is that SearchGPT cannot yet compete in certain areas against Google's diversity and depth. Especially in local and shopping-oriented searches, Google's rich results are still unrivalled. Still, the potential to offer an ad-free user experience makes SearchGPT attractive, especially for information-intensive searches.
At this point, it is essential to remember that both search engines respond to different needs and shape SEO strategies accordingly. The promising SearchGPT may offer significant opportunities, especially for content producers and media sites, but Google still has a long way to go before breaking its market dominance.
Isn't It Time to Rethink Your Google Ads Strategy?
Rethink your strategies to improve your Google Ads performance. You can make a difference in your digital marketing with new trends and tips.
Re-evaluate your keyword strategy in your Google Ads campaigns. Using broad match-type keywords allows you to reach a wider audience. This doesn't always bring better results. Optimizing keyword match types can help you get the maximum return on your ad spend. You can deliver more accurate messages to your target audience with exact match types.
In addition, user-oriented content production and targeting are of great importance. Your ads need to engage users and offer them value. Therefore, your ads must be aligned with the user experience. Content that you prepare by understanding users' search intent can increase your click-through rates.
Targeting mobile users, in particular, is an indispensable part of today's digital advertising. Given the increase in searches and purchases made from mobile devices, mobile-friendly ads are one of the most effective ways to reach potential customers. In this context, do not neglect mobile optimization.
Remember to analyze performance. Monitoring and analyzing your Google Ads campaigns is vital in improving your strategies. Making data-driven decisions allows you to create a more sustainable advertising strategy in the long run.
Using Google Ads and SEO together creates great synergy in your digital marketing strategies. While SEO increases your visibility in organic search results, Google Ads allows you to get fast returns. At Stradiji, these two strategies maximise our customers' benefits.
To learn how to combine the advantages of Google Ads and SEO, review our article "Advantages of Using Google Ads and SEO Together." This way, you can reach a broader target audience and achieve long-term success. Combining these two essential activities is vital for brands, especially during the current economic crisis.
By optimizing your Google Ads campaigns according to current trends, you can achieve higher conversion rates and better performance. Rethinking your strategy will increase the efficiency of your digital marketing investments.
