Google Webmaster Guidelines Become "Google Search Essentials"

Google has updated the Google Webmaster Guidelines to "Google Search Essentials."

The name change appears to be one of Google's ongoing efforts to remove the term "webmaster." This document does not narrow the focus to just "webmasters." It also broadens the focus to include publishers, site owners, developers, creators, and the like.

Google published the Google Webmaster Guidelines in 2002. The name stuck for 20 years, but Google decided it was time to change it and overhaul the guidelines significantly.

You can access Google Search Basics from the page below:

The Google Search Essentials make up the core parts of what makes your web-based content (web pages, images, videos, or other publicly-available material that Google finds on the web) eligible to appear and perform well on Google Search:

What Innovations Did This Change Bring to Our Lives?

Google didn't just change the name; it also changed the general format. It added more precise terms and examples and tried simplifying them for easier understanding.

Here's how Google explained the updates:

Technical Requirements: A new section to help you understand how to publish your content in a format that Google can index and access.

SPAM policies: Google has updated its guidance on anti-SPAM policies to help site owners avoid creating content that is not useful to people using Google Search. Google explained that much of these spam policies' content is already available in the "Quality Guidelines" on Google Search Central, with a few additions to provide more straightforward guidance and concrete examples on topics such as deceptive behavior, link SPAM, online harassment, and scams and fraud.

Essential Best Practices: Google has released a new set of best practices that we should consider to make it easier to find a useful, human-serving site on Google Search.

You can learn more about this development by reading the article published on Seroundtable.com:

Google Rolls Out Site Names and Updated Favicon Logos in Mobile Search Results

Be sure to check out the new site name structured data documentation!

Google is now rolling out what it calls "site names" in mobile search results. Site names more prominently display the website's name at the top of the snippet instead of just the URL. Google announced that the size and shape of the favicon would be displayed alongside the site name and URL of the search result snippet.

This update will be available in English, French, German, and Japanese. Other languages are expected to follow in the coming months.

Google said the change is an update aimed at providing more information about sites in search results "so that you can have confidence in the websites you visit".

Controlling site names: Google explained that Google Search uses various methods to determine the site name in search results.

However, if you prefer, you can use structured data on your homepage to tell Google what the site name for your site should be. The structured data of Google's specific documentation on this new Site name is available here.

Update the Favicon: Google also recommends revisiting the favicon documentation for the latest best practices. Google now also recommends that you provide an icon that is at least 48 pixels and follows the current favicon guidelines.

Make sure to check out the new site name structured data documentation.

Google Updates Structured Data for Images

Google is updating its image structured data to make adding creator and copyright information easier.

Google has added three new structured data properties for use with the ImageObject type to support information such as copyright and the image's original creator through structured data.

This is an improvement over the previous method based on IPTC photo metadata. IPTC stands for International Press Telecommunications Council, the standards body for news media.

IPTC metadata is a way to add credit and license information to photos. Through image-structured data, Google makes it easier for site owners to report such information to Google.

Microsoft Bing Gets Artificial Intelligence Image Generator

Microsoft is adding an AI image generator to its Bing search engine, allowing users to create images from text input.

My notes last week mentioned that Google has not "yet" banned AI-generated content.

Bing seems to want to capitalize on the appeal and popularity of AI image creation. With the new Image Creator tool coming to Microsoft Bing, you can create exactly the image you need by entering descriptive text.

In a blog post, Microsoft says that Image Creator can help searchers create images that don't yet exist. All you need to do is type in an image description, and Image Creator will create it for you.

When Image Creator is available, you can access it by going to the Bing Images tab and clicking on "Image Creator" or clicking on the Image Creator icon in the sidebar in Microsoft Edge.

With semantic SEO, anchor text, in my opinion, has become more critical than ever; it not only allows Google bots to crawl your other pages or share your Pagerank score by following links through anchor text, but it also connects your semantically related pages and allows Google to see the unity of topic that your different pages create.

But Google Says Don't Buy Backlinks?

It's like going into a room with a group of people where everyone is smoking and asking, "Who is smoking?"

Backlink business, unfortunately, works a bit like this :)

I recommend you try WhitePress and see for yourself if it works. You can also get backlinks as Google recommends (rel="sponsored"). By the way, you might want to take a look at Google's recommendations on the subject.
