Google Releases September 2022 Algorithm Update

Google's"Useful content" update is finished. Thankfully, as we said, we got through without incident, and another critical Google algorithm update started.

According to a statement made by Google this week, the September 2022 Google core algorithm update has begun.

The fact that Google's "Useful Content" algorithm update took place right after it drew the reaction of SEO experts. This update, which started on September 12, is expected to be completed in about two weeks.

Google Search has started to roll out the second broad core update of the year, the September 2022 broad core update. It started on September 12, 2022 at about 11:25 am ET and can take about two weeks to roll out.

Google's Danny Sullivan explained why the September core algorithm update closely followed the "Useful Content" update.

Sullivan stated that this situation did not happen according to a plan; it happened entirely by chance.

Although the two updates seem very independent, they have some common points. For example, suppose you think you're starting to experience organic traffic drops with this core algorithm update; your reference should be Google's article "What site owners need to know about Google's core updates."

Google Adds New HTTPS Report to Search Console

Google's new HTTPS report will help webmasters see pages indexed as "unsafe" and identify the source of the problem.

Google has announced that it will offer a new HTTPS report in Search Console. The announcement for this report came via Google's Search Center Blog, stating that it could take several months to materialize fully.

"One of the common requests we heard from you was to provide more information about the HTTPS status of the site and make it easier to understand which pages were not served over HTTPS and why," the Google blog states.

This new report will show you how many of the indexed pages on your site are HTTP and how many are HTTPS.

Google's new HTTPS report will help webmasters identify pages that are indexed as unsecured and help them identify why.

Zero Search Volume Keywords Targeting Advice from Google

Google answered a question about targeting keywords with no search volume.

In a Google office hours chat, Googlers answered whether they should try ranking for keywords with zero search volume.

The questioner asked if they were ranking for keywords with zero search volume and if they should target them for ranking purposes.

Lizzi, a Google expert, answered the question as follows:

"…You can optimize for the keywords you want. It doesn't always have to be with the keywords with the most volume. If I were you, I would think about how people should find your page and target keywords accordingly."

In my opinion, this is the correct approach. Why should we limit ourselves to the keyword volumes given by SEO tools?

If Google's claim that we encounter many search queries every day that has not been done before is valid, your criteria should be whether your potential customers are likely to make those search queries. Otherwise, you cannot get out of the circle.

Does Google Penalize Sites That Look The Same?

John Mueller of Google explained how Google treats two sites whose HTML infrastructure is the same.

Google's John Mueller answered whether Google penalized nearly identical sites. Mueller used examples of varying levels of similarity between sites and indicated which should be avoided.

The person who asked the question stated that the two websites belonging to their companies have very similar designs and HTML infrastructure. He said they wanted to know if this caused a problem for Google.

John Mueller replied as follows:

"There is no penalty for Google for the same HTML infrastructure or layout. However, if the contents are shared, problems may arise. Google may see the contents of one site as the original and another as a copy. The real problem starts at this point".

How to Make JavaScript Redirects for SEO?

Based on Google documentation, learn how you can implement Javascript redirects as risk-reducing as possible.

JavaScript redirects are one of the ways webmasters can use to notify both users and search engines that the requested URL is permanently or temporarily unavailable.

Typically best practices are to use server-side 301s, 302s, or 307s. You can learn how to do this by reading the article published in the Search Engine Journal below:
