Google Search Quality Rater Guidelines Update: What Has Changed?

Google has updated YMYL and low-quality page definitions. You can find the details in this article.

Google has made significant changes to their Quality Rater Guidelines, specifically how they define Your Money, Your Life (YMYL) topics and the role of E-A-T in low-quality content.

I became aware of the subject thanks to SEO expert Lily Ray's LinkedIn post:

Never a dull moment! Google just made some pretty significant changes to the Quality Rater Guidelines, especially as it relates to how they define Your... 20 comments on LinkedIn

You can find Lily Ray's observations about the update in the article below:

Google has reframed its definition of YMYL, revamped its definition of low-quality pages and more. Here are the details.

Knowing how Google defines YMYL and E-A-T can make a difference in your SEO efforts.

With this update, Google is asking quality raters to consider how much any content covered by YMYL could harm users.

Google also states that daily expertise is sufficient for many types of content. However, when content qualifies as YMYL (where it has the potential to harm individuals or society or could affect a person's financial well-being, health, or safety), E-A-T becomes extremely important.

Google Releases July 2022 Product Review Algorithm Update

Google began rolling out the July 2022 product review algorithm update.

This update is an improved version of the product review algorithm that Google announced in March 2021.

The algorithm is designed to reward reviews for shared in-depth research rather than the weak — unsatisfactory product reviews you might find on a product review site.

It is recommended that websites publishing product reviews continue to focus on meeting Google's strict criteria for high-quality content.

In short, Google wants to see your test and try the product you're reviewing firsthand. Quantitative measurements, benefits, and disadvantages, comparisons with other products, etc.

You are not expected to rewrite the same content that already exists on the web. However, Google now prioritizes reviews that offer unique value. Even using original photos and videos can make a difference with this update.

Internal Linking for SEO: Everything You Need to Know

I recommend reading the 2022 internal link guide published on the Serpstat blog.

SEO strategies often focus on keyword usage, research, external links, page layout, and other important aspects of site design.

But while these elements of SEO are essential, many webmasters and business owners don't realize the importance of internal linking in SEO.

If you set aside internal linking and don't give it the attention it deserves, your site may suffer in rankings.

Fortunately, adding internal linking work to your existing SEO strategies is relatively easy.

Not sure where to start? You can start by reading this guide published on the Serpstat blog.

Linking optimization (structure and texts of internal links) is one of the main tasks in the promotion. It's important to pay attention to the competent distribution of static weight between pages and the proper use of anchor text to effectively promote the resource.

Google: You Need to Replace HTTP Links With HTTPS

Google recommends replacing internal HTTP links with HTTPS versions rather than relying on redirects. Here is why.

Google's John Mueller says we should always replace internal links pointing to HTTP URLs with HTTPS versions.

A few years ago, Google's Gary Illyes said that changing links wasn't worth it when proper redirects were made.

Now Mueller says it's "always" worth doing. Fortunately, changing HTTP internal links in bulk is not a difficult task.

Changing links rather than relying on redirects can positively impact web page performance.

Anyone who clicks on a link to HTTPS must first go through the HTTP version. Getting rid of this unnecessary and redundant step means visitors get to the content faster.

Additionally, relying on redirects for internal links may not always work. There are many possibilities, such as redirect chains, redirect loops, and broken links.

If a site uploads images containing HTTP URLs, it can cause browsers to display a "not secure" error message to visitors, preventing them from staying on your site.

For many other reasons, I recommend you provide internal links over the HTTPS version and revise existing HTTP links with HTTPS versions.

Shopify Lays Off 10% Of Its Workforce

Shopify's CEO announced that 10% of the workforce is being laid off. Employees were shocked and expressed surprise.

I have stated for a few weeks that the world economy is heading towards an unprecedented recession, that consumption will decrease and competition will increase.

Shopify's announcement that it will lay off 10% of its workforce may indicate that we are heading towards a recession.

The fact that Shopify, one of the world's largest e-commerce infrastructure providers, had to lay off 10% of its employees may be due to Shopify's prediction that the speed of opening new e-commerce sites will decrease and some of the existing ones will be closed due to the recession.
