Google Launches May 2022 Core Algorithm Update

One of the major Google algorithm updates, which happens several times a year, has been activated as of this week.

At such times, it is helpful to take a deep breath and be calm; It is natural to experience turbulence in the rankings. We can liken the Google algorithm to software, and these algorithm updates to software updates for the software to perform better.

Rank tracking tools like Semrush Sensor point to significant fluctuations in rankings. There were very substantial fluctuations on May 26 in the Semrush projects that we follow.

Suppose you are experiencing a loss of organic traffic or significant changes in rankings during this process. In that case, it is helpful to take a look at the following article published by Google in 2019:

Each day, Google usually releases one or more changes designed to improve our search results.

Most aren't noticeable but help us incrementally continue to improve.

There is no precise analysis of the types of sites the algorithm affects. However, I will continue to follow up and share with you.

Google is releasing a broad core algorithm update on May 25, 2022. It will take roughly two weeks to fully roll out.

How to Optimize Your Schema Markups for Semantic SEO

If you want to improve your knowledge of semantic SEO, I recommend reading this article.

Semantic SEO is the science of describing the types of entities in the world and how they are related. One way to do this is to define a vocabulary for "things" and the contextual relationship between them; The language that makes Semantic SEO possible today is called Schema.org.

Schema.org is not the only vocabulary for the Semantic Web but is maintained and supported by Google, Bing, Yahoo, and Yandex. That said, it's important to remember that structured data isn't the only way to optimize for the semantic Web, but it is one of the effective ways if you have good content.

Let's say your website contains a large amount of content. In this case, structured data can help define, categorize, and link your content in a way that helps search engines better understand it.

Many people know how to create and set up structured data, but not many know how to optimize structured data for the Semantic Web. This article published on Schemantra.com tells us this.

The purpose of structured data The goal of structured data is to make human language machines readable. Structured data is data that has descriptions and formatted in standardized and accessible manner. Data descriptions are what we call metadata. Therefore structured data gives machines and search engines the ability to understand…

It still has missing features. However, former Google employee Krista Seiden, who was instrumental in developing the Google Analytics product, GA4, is a great tool.

This article by Seiden, published in Search Engine Land this week, may change your perspective on GA4.

10 Essential SEO Practices Web Developers Should Know

Understanding SEO fundamentals can contribute to successful collaboration between developers and SEO professionals.

I think most SEO projects fail because SEO experts and web developers do not speak the same language. Web developers are involved in SEO work; they have many other jobs. Therefore, it is beneficial for SEO experts to inform web developers about basic SEO requirements right at the beginning of a project.

Documents such as MOZ's SEO Cheat Sheet can contribute to this.

The essential SEO toolset: keyword research, link building, site audits, page optimization, rank tracking, reporting, and more.

Learning this new concept can breathe new life into your SEO work.

Satisfying search intent is a critical component of our daily SEO work. However, if you don't think ahead of time about what a visitor might be looking for after that initial query has been answered, you could be missing out on your leads.

In last week's famous Whiteboard Friday video from Moz, Ola King talked about what "next user intent" is, why it's important, and how you can optimize websites for it.

Google Adds Transparency Clause to Top Apps for Video Thumbnails

I encourage you to consider this new Google recommendation for the thumbnails you use in your YouTube videos.

Google has added a line to its video best practices document explaining that at least 80% of your thumbnail pixels must have little or no transparency to enable video indexing.

Transparency: At least 80% of the thumbnail's pixels must have an alpha (transparency) value greater than 250.

Explore video best practices, including video structured data, to help increase the likelihood that your video will be displayed in search results.

I think this explanation is important, especially since it's located under the "make sure your videos are indexable" section of the document. So if you want these videos or video thumbnails to be indexed, make sure they are not transparent.
